Our Retirees

Our pocket pointer from Millican, Annie is the true sweetheart of the yard. She’s never met a dog she doesn’t like, and is super playful. She is shy with new people but adores her daily adventures with Taylor, pointing the quail pen, and any and all treats.

One of two pulled from Waller County, Athena was roaming the streets with her male cohort Orion, killing chickens and adventuring as much as she could. She and Orion are fiercely bonded, and appear to be an old breeding pair of labs. They have claimed the couches and recliner as their own, and enjoy lounging, barking and playing with each other.

Axe was a pull from Fort Bend County’s shelter after he was found as a stray roaming in Katy! This guy seems to have lived quite a life, as his microchip traced back to owners in Oklahoma and breeder in Indiana! He is our perpetual yard patroller, and enjoys “working” and roaming as much as possible. He, Chris and Ralph are our triplet GSPs that hang together!

Axe

Male German Shorthair Pointer

This handsome guy is one of the longest sanctuary residents and the most lovable lab personality you could ever hope to meet. He adores the water, fetch, and FOOD.

Male Lab

Our one eyed wonder, Cabela is a favorite of dogs and people alike. She plays consistently with her besties Kaia and Sammy, has a constantly wagging tail and sweet demeanor that makes it so easy to be around her.

Chris is the last remaining of a group of 5 we saved from being abandoned on a ranch in south Texas. He has no teeth left, but that doesn’t stop him from eating as much as possible, hanging with his buddies Count, Axe, and Ralph, and getting in every water source he can possibly find.

The patriarch of our sanctuary, Count was our second save and is currently the longest resident. He adores people and dogs of all kinds, sunning himself, and destroying absolutely anything he can from beds to paper to couch cushions! He has beat cancer, never had a bad day, and we adore him beyond words! Thankful for every day with him!

Male GSP

Dottie is GSP that was a rare owner surrender situation for us. Her owner has gotten physically unable to hunt with her and was unsure of how to give her the best quality of life for her remaining years until he found us. Dottie is one of our more reserved dogs, preferring to spend most of her time inside on the couch or relaxing by the fan.

Kaia was an owner surrender and has truly thrived living with us in the sanctuary! Her, Cabela and Sammy the GSP are the rambunctious trio constantly playing and wrestling. She is the first to greet you in the morning, loves pulling couch cushions outside so she can sun herself in comfort, and has the best personality.

Female GSP

Luke was part of a group from a preserve in Millican and has lived over 2 years with us at the sanctuary with his best friend Bo (yes the Dukes of Hazzard!) He is sweet and shy, and enjoys sunning himself in as big a hole as he can dig any chance he gets.
